Our youth teamed up with Awaken the City http://www.awakenthecity.org/ for a week long mission experience in downtown Cincinnati area. And it was a wonderful experience.
The question asked of us throughout the week – Where have you seen city lights? A city light is one who shows Christ love. It was amazing to hear all the teens and leaders share about their city lights. Often their city light was a person running one of the various centers in the inner city. But the teens also witnessed city lights within each other – how everyone stepped out of their comfort zone and served the Lord – carrying Christ’s light into a very dark city.
By the end of the week we had been awakened. We were awakened to the many needs around the city, awakened to the people within the city. On the last day, each of us was asked to finish this statement, “I am awake to……” Here are some of our responses.
I am awake...
...to serve and love the Lord with all my heart
...to people who are in need
...to the very simple ways we can help/love children
...to what's been going on in my backyard
...to the children of God laughing and playing
...to God's desire for all people to know love
The city is waking up to Christ's love and so are we! Continue to pray for our teens and our church as we stay AWAKE to the needs around us.
