Luke 6:31 Do to others as you would like them to do to you.
Jesus is clear with his words. Jesus isn’t trying to confuse anyone. Jesus is trying to get everyone to understand what is expected - Do to others as you would like them to do to you.
Jesus is saying I want you to treat other people with the same respect, the same generosity, the same love as you would hope they would show to you. When it comes to generosity, would you want them to be stingy or judgmental? When it comes to service, would you want someone to help you if you were stranded or if you were in need of some extra hands around the house? When it comes to giving, the scripture says, do what you would want others to do for you, are you giving enough?
Jesus is clear in this chapter the expectations of believers. He does not want nor need us out there judging others. Jesus doesn’t want us sizing people up, asking 20 questions, ‘well when are you going to pay me back?”
Luke 6:36, You must be compassionate, just as your Father is compassionate. Jesus forgives me. Jesus shows me compassion and grace. Jesus welcomes me back into his arms after I strayed. And Jesus died for me and my sins. That’s mercy! That’s compassion! That’s Love!
